Ellen Chavez de Leitner: News

New Recording in the Works - October 29, 2007

The next in the series of recordings of Father Blanch's music will be recorded in December when Cecilia is New Mexico. We will record his Christmas music, and hopefully it will be available early in 2008.

Fundraiser for Anansi Charter School - October 15, 2007

Ellen will perform solo violin pieces and her daughter Johanna Boudreau will accompany her on guitar in waltzes and polkas from northern New Mexico. The event is a fundraiser for Anansi charter school in the village of Arroyo Seco, close to Taos. Come enjoy the fall weather and the beautiful scenery around Northern New Mexico, and support good education!

Concert Plans - September 17, 2007

Currently I'm planning a concert series of the quintet, Duo Guadalupe, a solo violin program, and a performance with Cecilia and Genevieve.

Also in the wings:
A house concert at a prominent Santa Fe citizen's residence, and
"Schubertiana" (evenings of friends performing chamber music, with potluck dinner and good cheer) organized by a St. John's colleague, Tony Jeffries.

More music of Father Blanch will be available hopefully by next year. Cecilia is busy at graduate school at Yale. She is a soprano soloist, member of "Voxtet" and the Yale Schola Cantorum, which will be travelling to Serbia and Croatia in the spring. I may join her for her recital, sometime before summer, in one of Fr. Blanch's compositions.

Please let me know if you have any favorite pieces you would like to hear in our concerts, or any other ideas you have. My goal is to have more chamber music throughout the year, and to increase the audience so more people can enjoy beautiful, heartfelt, inspiring music.

Cecilia and Genevieve Perform - June 26, 2007

Cecilia and Genevieve Leitner, sisters, (Ellen's daughters), will perform a concert on Thursday, June 19 at Fuller Lodge in Los Alamos, and Friday June 20 at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Barcelona Road in Santa Fe. These are their only performances while they're home for the summer. (Please see "Calendar" on this website.)

Cecilia is doing her graduate studies at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, and Genevieve attends North Carolina School of the Arts for undergraduate studies. For the concert, Cecilia will also be accompanied by a very talented young pianist, Nathan Salazar.

Trip to Ireland - May 28, 2007

I'll be traveling to Ireland from May 29th to June 12th to accompany Rose and her friend Kelsey for their Irish dance competition. We'll also be checking out the fiddling scene there as well as touring the country.

Concert Success - May 5, 2007

The concert went well, and everyone seemed to have enjoyed it. If anyone has comments, please post them in the guestbook. Lots of people enjoyed the Haydn. ("It was sublime.") And the beautiful castanet players were a big hit.
I didn't mention it at the performance, but my glasses broke as I was cleaning them right before the concert, and I had a hard time seeing when they started slipping! So that made it difficult for me, but I still enjoyed it, and I think most people didn't notice.
Thanks to everyone who attended! And a big thanks to our sponsors, whose ads are on the program back - please check them out if you haven't already.

New time for concert: 7:00 PM - April 1, 2007

The concert on April 29th has been changed to 7:00 PM. You can order tickets or reservations by phone or online. Please come! The music is beautiful and entertaining. See the Calendar for more details, or call (505) 920-9728.

Loretto Chapel Performance - March 20, 2007

Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 7PM, Duo Guadalupe will be joined by friends in a performance of a Duo, Trio, Quartet, and Quintet. Music is by Ferdinand Carulli, Nicolo Paganini, Josef Haydn, and Luigi Boccherini. There will be a surprise in the Boccherini, which is a Spanish dance influenced piece subtitled "Fandango".

Concerts in April - February 13, 2007

Mark your calendar! Duo Guadalupe will be performing with some other musicians at Loretto Chapel on April 29th, 2007. There will be a Paganini trio for violin, cello, and guitar, a quartet by Haydn, and a quintet by Boccherini, the "Fandango". For the "Guitars & Gateaux" at Fuller Lodge on April 26th, 2007, we plan to get the same group together, but if it doesn't gel, we'll do a Baroque recital.

Holy Family Church - November 10, 2006

Cecilia and Ellen will be pariticipating in the 10:00 am Mass on November 19th and 26th at Holy Family Church in Chimayo. Afterwards, "Canticos de Fe" CD's will be available. The proceeds go toward Cecilia's education expenses and to the Sons of the Holy Family, the order of priests who serve our parish. We visited their seminary in Barcelona and met the seminarians, who are very enthusiastic about studying music along with their priestly training.

Reception at MOSCA - November 8, 2006

Duo Guadalupe will be playing Friday, November 17, 2006 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Spanish Colonial Arts Society Members’ Preview reception of “From Viceregal to Vernacular: Paintings of Colonial Mexico and New Mexico” featuring works from the Jan and Frederick Mayer Collection from the Denver Art Museum. Contact The Museum of Spanish Colonial Arts if you aren’t a member yet.
It will be background music, but fun anyway! So, come if you can!

Performances - October 13, 2006

Cecilia is back from her search for a Graduate school. Her auditions in Vienna, Graz, and Barcelona went very well, and she's taking her time to make up her mind. We plan to do some concerts at churches to promote Father Blanch's music. If you want us to go to your church, please let us know the person to contact to organize it. Thanks!

Back from Spain - September 16, 2006

Barcelona turned out to be more "Catalonia" than "Spain", but is in any case a beautiful, interesting city.
Cecilia and I saw a performance by "the world's best Spanish guitarist", Manuel Rodriguez. There were a lot of street musicians, but the regular concert season hadn't started yet.
CD's are not so easy to market there because of government regulations, but we are working on it, and have potential buyers.

CD is here! - August 16, 2006

"Canticos de Fe" has arrived and can be ordered or picked up! We are so proud that Father Blanch's music is finally available on CD. This is the first time it has ever been made available. Of course you can hear him in person at Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz, New Mexico almost every Sunday. To buy the CD, stop by the Leitner studio at 815 State Road 76 in Chimayo, or order by mail (click on BUY above).

Music clips now available to listen! - August 9, 2006

Music clips are now added to this site! Now you can preview the new CD, "Canticos de Fe", as well as "Duo Guadalupe". Go to Music on the menu bar.

CD at the press! - July 28, 2006

"Canticos de Fe" is at the press and will definitely be ready by August 11th! Go to the Photo Gallery and see the CD face and cover, and to Music to hear clips.

New CD - July 23, 2006

Ellen is producing a CD of music of Father Jose Maria Blanch, featuring Cecilia Leitner, vocals, Ellen violin, and Father Blanch, piano. The songs are Catalonian influenced, with beautiful harmonies, deeply spiritual, and somewhat old-fashioned in style. There are also a couple of songs without words for violin and piano.
The CD will be ready by August 11 (hopefully!).

Trip to Spain - July 23, 2006

Ellen and daughter Cecilia will travel to Spain in August to research the music of Father Blanch, and to promote the new CD of his music. Cecilia is also looking for a voice teacher in Spain, Germany, or Austria, to continue her graduate studies. She just got her B.A. from North Carolina School of the Arts.
